The stream rushed past, but Cobble stayed stuck. Leaves and pebbles tumbled past, laughing along. Cobble watched them go, wishing to drift too.
He wiggled hard, pushing against the rushing water. He wedged tighter between two stubborn, mossy rocks. More and more drifted away without him.
Everyone flowed onward while he never moved. The water rushed harder, rubbing his rough edges. One morning, sunlight caught a faint gleam.
He stopped fighting, and let the water work. Passing leaves slowed to admire his gleam. Passing leaves slowed to admire his new gleam.
Now Cobble gleams, the jewel of the stream.
